Three years ago I married a rather wonderful fella. I probably thought this at the time, but certainly with retrospect, it really was the very best decision I’ve ever made. I’ve been married before and I suppose the fact that I’m talking about my second wedding probably tells you everything you need to know about the success of that first union. A lot of water and bridges and all that but suffice to say, the first husband turned out to be a bit of a git. That’s the most polite I can manage.
The current husband is absolutely the opposite of the starter husband. And at times like this, when frankly there’s a temptation to get a little bit gloomy about everything, I feel incredibly grateful to have him on my side. I’m not one to gush. I don’t do big public displays of affectionate across social media. But this year, I feel like I should make a point of documenting the fact that I think he’s really quite lovely.
So there you go.
N.B. The card in the picture was sent by my 5 year old nephew who clearly has a future as an extremely successful artist. The resemblance to the happy couple is frankly uncanny, right down to those tree trunk legs and stick fingers. We’re an attractive pairing!
